The Mackinac Bridge
The Mackinac Bridge is the fifth longest bridge in the world. It is recorded at five miles long, connecting Michigan's Upper and Lower Peninsula's. Construction on this extraordinarily long bridge took place on May 7, 1954 and was completed on November 1, 1957. It was opened to the public on the same day it was completed. The width of the bridge is 54 feet. The height is about 551 feet. The Mackinac Bridge weighs about 1,024,500 tons.
